RAY & CHARLES EAMES | PLASTIC CHAIR

Designed in 1948-50 by Charles and Ray Eames. The whole collection of Plastic Chairs was revolutionary, it was first plastic seat to be mass-produced. Made from moulded fiberglass- reinforced polyester seat connected to metal base.

 

VERNER PANTON | PANTON CHAIR

Designed in 1959-60 by Verner Panton. It was the first single-material, single-form chair.

PHILIPPE STARCK | VICTORIA GHOST

PHILIPPE STARCK | LOUIS GHOST

Designed in 2002 by Philippe Starck. Made from injection-moulded polycarbonate in translucent colors, Victoria Ghost and Louis Ghost are bestselling contemporary design icons.

FABIO NOVEMBRE | HIM

Designed in 2008 by Fabio Novembre. Crafted from moulded polyethylene. “Him” shape was created using a 3 dimensional scan of 2 plaster sculptures.

KONSTANTIN GRCIC | CHAIR ONE

Designed in 2004 by Konstantin Grcic. The “Chair_One” series is a system with universal seat and different bases. The seat has innovative geometrical form. The chair is for indoor and outdoor use.

LUDVIG MIES VAN DER ROHE | BARCELONA

One of the most recognized chair of last century, icon of modernism. Designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lily Reich in 1929.  Shows Mies van der Rohe’s most famous maxis „ less is more”. It was originally designed for German Pavillon for International Exposition of 1929 in Barcelona. Chair was first used in Villa Tugendthat in Brno, also designed by Mies van der Rohe.

OSKAR ZIĘTA | CHIPENSTEEL 0.5 CHAIR

Designed by Oscar Zięta. Chair is produced in innovative FIDU technology, using bending properties of steel sheets. Oscar Zięta is  an innovator who invented the FIDU technology. His furniture projects are considered as futuristic.

GERRIT RIETVELD | ZIG ZAG CHAIR

Designed in 1932-34 by Gerrit Rietveld. The chair is made from a single sheet of oak wood and has a Z shape to resolve the tension between vertical and horizontal lines. Zig Zag was one of the first examples of a cantilevered seat.

CHARLES & RAY EAMES | LOUNGE CHAIR

Designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1956 for the Herman Miller Furniture Company. The official name is Eames Lounge 670 and Ottoman 671. The chair was inspired by the traditional English Club Chair. It was the first luxury item of Eames, they developed furniture that could be affordable, the Lounge Chair was the only exception.The Eames Lounge Chair first appeared on the Arlene Francis Home show broadcast on the NBC television network in the USA in 1956. The Lounge Chair became one of the most famous designs by Charles and Ray Eames and has attained the status of a classic in the history of modern furniture. Examples of these furnishings are part of the permanent collection of New York’s Museum of Modern Art.

FABIO NOVEMBRE, NEMO

Designed in is a giant masks for sitting in. Nemo armchair, design by Fabio Novembre for Driade is more of a work of art than a seat. The Nemo chair is a gorgeous and unique piece of art, abstract and universal. „Fabio Novembre uses furniture design to tell intense and fascinating stories in which the protagonist is often the human figure. this human figure is capable of becoming abstract and universal, able to propose a mythic beauty as occurred in greek art”

GEORGE NELSON, COCONUT CHAIR

Designed in 1955, Nelson inspiration was of course coconut. The chair is designed to let let user sit in any position and move with ease. It shape follows the human body. Nelson said he developed it „to give lounge seating comfort, together with great  freedom of movement”.

VERNER PANTON, HEART CONE CHAIR

Verner Panton was a master of 1960s futuristic “Pop” design, unlike other Danish Modernists. He designed for a positive future, happily embracing forward-thinking forms. The chair was designed in 19960, to provoke people into using their imagination. Patton said „I try to show new ways, to encourage people to use their fantasy imagination and make their surroundings more exciting.” The Heart Chairs is described as chair with Mickey Mouse ears.

CHARLES&RAY EAMES, LA CHAISE

Chaise was inspired by Gaston La chaise’s 1927 sculpture Reclining Nude. The extravagant chaise was designed in 1948 by the Eames, originally for a contest of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.  It was highlighted, judges admired molded construction but It did not receive a prize because it was considered too “specialized in use” and too expensive to manufacture at the time. Finally item went to production in 1990 and nowadays is iconic project of Eameses’s.

CARL HANSEN CH07 SHELL

Designed in 1963, The shape inspired by shell, has court ed lined and 3 leg construction. Firstly only some critics loved the design about Shell chair, the general public doesn’t accept it because of its different design. The Shell Chair was reintroduced in 1998 and immediately won public appeal. Nowadays is a danish design icon.

BUTTERFLY CHAIR | Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy

Butterfly Chair also known as a BFK chair or Harody Chair was designed in 1938 in Buenos Aires. It was designed by architects who met at Le Corbusier, where they all were assistants. Antonio Bonet, Juan Kurchan and Jorge Ferrari Hardoy. Style of chair featuring a folding frame and a large cloth sling hung from the frame’s highest points.

ARNE JACOBSEN, EGG CHAIR

ARNE JACOBSEN | SWAN CHAIR

Designed in 1958 by Arne Jacobsen for Hotel Radisson SAS, in Copenhagen. Egg Chair and Swan Chair was originally meant to replace the couch or the sofa. Arne Jacobsen is said to have drawn inspiration for the Egg Chair from Eero Saarinen’s ‘Womb Chair’, but is only a theory because Egg Chair and Womb Chair has it owns identity. Chairs were unusually shaped  and its style were special, and this was its most important attraction.  Aesthetic allowed comfort that chairs provided to the user. The chairs have been made use of to improve the interiors of not just the Radisson, but according to a report in the New York Times, the chairs had been also part of McDonald’s restaurant in London and Copenhagen. Unfortunately only a little number of these original chairs had been ever made. Arne Jacobsen was and is an admired and outstanding designer. His furniture and other design work have become a national and international heritage.

B&B ITALIA | SERIE UP 2000

Designed in by Gaetano Pesce, is a methapor of large womb and recalls ancient statued of fertility goddesses. It is a image of comfort and convenience is combined with a more figurative image of a woman with a ball and chain on her foot. Gaetano Pesce explains the project as follows: “At that time, I was telling a personal story about my concept of women: I believe that women have always been unwilling prisoners of themselves. This is why I decided to give this armchair the shape of a woman with a ball and chain, a traditional image of a prisoner.”  The chair has become an international icon with different names like ”Big mama”, „Blow up”.
